It's been 2 months since my last email and a big reason for that is that I sorta hate my art right now. All of my ideas feel trite and retreads of my previous work and while I've tried to flex my creativity into other mediums, poetry, photography, and music; I still end up hating my shit.

I've been trying to sit with this. Trying to investigate why. And trying to be more intentional about embracing the negative space.

But today I feel like writing a little. I want to dump everything that I've been working on and thinking about both big and small in the hopes that I can get back into a creative routine. I'm dumping my sketchbook out on my table, or your inbox, and hoping I can feel inspired by what I see. At the very least, I'll feel accountable to y'all once I put the ideas out there into the world. Here's some things I've been doing:

  • Good Graphics - The look and format of the home page has been updated to be the twin to the romellogoodman.com home page
  • garnet.romellogoodman.com - I moved Garnet's url from garnet.website
  • Piet Newsletter - I added the Piet murals that I mentioned in the postscript
  • Click To Tweet - I suspended Click To Tweet for the time being while I rethink how my art stack works. Got bored with seeing the same group of 30-something designs constantly
  • garnet/title - play with the tab's title
  • garnet/favicon - play with the tab's icon
  • atwo - atwo is "a creative coding framework". It's my attempt at rebuilding and open-sourcing my ideas around an art stack.
  • hypertextscriptinglanguage.js - I created a sibling to goodgraphics.js meant to script websites. I want to explore the browser as a document viewer and preparer and how websites can be used to create static media
  • Polaris - At Shopify, I worked on building a new site for our admin design system

  • Block - I'm leaving Shopify and moving to Block as a Design Technologist
  • New Graphics

Fin. I'll hopefully see you soon.

P.S. - I'm starting my designer's journey
