On Claude Design

April 20, 2026

Claude Design's release has been great for the discourse. Is it the future of design? Has the model made us obsolete? Within the noise there's great signal and I'll link to a few of my favorite pieces:

As someone in the lab but not working on this product, I think about what Claude Code has done for coding. The way it has changed the profession of writing software by automating large swaths of it. I fear for what this might look like for design, but I also look at all of the software I've been able to make. Spending entire weekends making every tiny app and website that I can dream about. The fun it has brought back to software creation.

I've fallen back in love with the act of making. How doing it over and over again helps me get to the crux of what you are doing. To the core of the problem where I add my viewpoint and flex my craft. Virgil called this the 3% rule. My hope for the future is that this is where we all get to spend the majority of our time. Not fighting interfaces or setting up boilerplates. But in the 3% that matters.
